Better Neighbourhoods Logan

Where we live is part of who we are. It is part of our story. Better Neighbourhoods Logan is an exciting, once-in-a-generation opportunity to build a more vibrant and liveable community in Logan. It will provide people with greater access to safe and affordable housing as well as jobs through long-term development projects.

Logan has one of the fastest growing populations in Queensland. While there are areas of affordable housing in the community, predicted population growth without suitable development is likely to put a strain on availability and affordability of housing over time.

Logan is also the location of a large volume of social housing properties, many of which are older style three-bedroom dwellings without strong links to transport, jobs or support services. In contrast, the greatest demand for housing comes from people who require one or two-bedroom accessible units in central locations, such as the elderly and those with a disability.

Delivered as a partnership between the Department of Housing and Public Works and Economic Development Queensland, Better Neighbourhoods will connect with other government departments, agencies, not-for-profit providers and private industry partners to improve housing diversity and better meet people’s needs.

Better Neighbourhoods will also work with Logan City Council to identify and act on opportunities to ‘activate’ urban spaces and encourage local participation in development projects.

While urban revitalisation and development will deliver improved housing diversity, Better Neighbourhoods Logan will also work with local human service and support organisations to strengthen service delivery through an integrated, coordinated and person-centered approach.

The program will generate almost $1 billion in housing investment in the community and deliver more than 3300 new social and affordable dwellings for the people of Logan.
